You very nearly jump out of your skin when you turn to see hundreds of tiny red eyes staring straight at you. All you can hear is the sound of your own bated breath and racing heart as the little creatures chitter and watch you from the shadows. Bats?

They must be, you tell yourself. You begin to calm down.

That is, until a pair of eyes blink slowly at you, one eye at a time, with eyelids coming out from the sides rather than the top and bottom.
