(Forgot to post after I finished it)
My final soundscape ended up being pretty simple, just someone going about their everyday life, starting from their last few minutes working in a crowded place and then driving home, feeding their cat, and going about their nightly routine. It didn’t deviate much from my original idea, but it ended up being much shorter than I expected it to be, so I had to find something to add to extend the runtime. I felt like most of it was pretty successful at communicating what I was trying to get across, I especially liked the layering and sound sequence I used for the part where the subject of the audio was making their dinner. I thought my choice of sounds and the order they were put in was really good at showing the steps taken by the subject in cooking their dinner, so much so that the listener could potentially even visualize what exactly they were making. On the other hand, I didn’t like the ending of my recording. In my original idea, I was going to take the sounds from the rest of the recording and play them again backwards with effects over them so it seemed like they were dreaming about their day or potentially starting a time loop, but when I tried to put that into action, it ended up being too long and I couldn’t figure out how to shorten it while still communicating the story properly. By the time I figured that out though I was super close to the deadline, so I kinda scrambled to come up with an alternate ending and ended up settling on the clanging water bottle noise with some reverb and distortion added. In the future, I would try to spread out my timeline a little more evenly and account for potential snafus so I don’t end up unsatisfied with my final product again.
