My final artwork consists of visual representations of what the world would look like if wings were part of people’s everyday lives; for example, what kinds of sports would be played, or how flight would be regulated as a mode of transportation. The concept didn’t really differ much from my original idea, but the execution definitely changed a lot. I was hoping to incorporate more landscape focused things, mostly made in Photoshop, like a busy street adapted to commuters with wings, as well as more detailed art and comic-style graphics depicting more situations, but I found those ideas too complicated for my skill level with Photoshop and Illustrator, so I ended up simplifying my images a lot more than I originally intended. I thought it was successful for the most part, since during my critique the concept seemed to come across pretty clearly, but some of the finer details were missed, such as the little comics about getting a flight license, dying wing feathers, mid-air sports, and the changes that would have to be made to furniture to accommodate wings. I think if I were to do this project again, and if I either had more time to familiarize myself with Photoshop and Illustrator or was allowed to use other programs I’m more comfortable with, I would dive a lot deeper into the concept and the finer details of the winged world I created. I definitely struggled with not being able to use text to communicate my idea, but I think I could also come up with other/better ways of integrating text into my images.
